Pottery Repair Workshop: Kintsugi – February 2025

Learn the beauty of repaired pottery in this three-week workshop. During this workshop students will learn about the history of kintsugi and learn how to repair a broken pottery piece. This class is well-suited for beginners who have broken pottery they would like to enhance. While it will be helpful to have a broken piece for this session, if you need a piece, there will be pieces you can purchase and break for the class.
The workshop includes all the ingredients and materials needed to repair one small piece. Kintsugi kits for at-home use or if you have a large piece to repair are available for purchase at $85 each kit. Please share an image of your piece if you have concerns about how much
An apron, towel, and safety gear will be provided, though you can bring your own.
A maximum of 4 students will be in the workshop, allowing for plenty of hands-on guidance as needed. No make up sessions will be offered. Once the workshop is full, a waitlist will open for the next workshop.
Sample 2 hour, 3-week schedule:
- Week 1: Demo and start repairing your piece with a food-safe epoxy alternative to urushi.
- Week 2: Go over the history of kintsugi and try decorative-purpose only alternative methods of kintsugi. Sand pieces and prepare to apply gold or silver to your piece.
- Week 3: In this one hour session, you will apply your last layer of epoxy to fully seal your repair and make your piece food safe.

Sliding scale pricing is how we balance the equity scales and we use it to make ceramics education accessible and affordable to all. There are four tiers for pricing. When signing up for this class, please pay what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible. BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ are encouraged to pay the Solidarity and Equity Tiers.
Full-price Tier – This is the actual cost for the workshop.
Solidarity Tier – This is a moderately discounted cost for the workshop.
Equity Tier – This is a further discounted cost for the workshop.
Pay-it-Forward Tier – This is a moderately higher cost for the workshop. This tier helps us continue to offer sliding scale pricing as well as offer low cost workshops.
