Throwing on the Pottery Wheel Open Studio Tues., Thurs., and Sat., May 7th, 2024-May 28th, 2024 6:30 pm-9:30 pm Waitlist

Note: This is a pet-friendly studio. While cleaning is regularly done, there will most likely be allergens present. Pets are welcomed with permission only.

During this 4-week open studio, students will have time to come in to practice throwing on their own. This session is only for current and former students who are familiar with the space. Students must attend orientation during the first Tuesday session as open studio is unmonitored and there is no instruction. Students will be able to access the studio during any of these times for a total of 10 possible 3 hour sessions:

Tuesdays 6:30 pm-9:30 pm (Weeks 1-4)

Thursdays 6:30 pm-9:30 pm (Weeks 1-3)

Saturdays 8:00 am-11:00 am (Weeks 1-3)

The fee includes use of the space during the 4 weeks. Students will receive a shelf, 10 lbs of clay, use of oxides and glaze, one bisque, and one glaze firing.

There are general pottery supplies for use in the studio. Personal tool kits are also available to purchase for $15. An apron and towel will be provided, though you can bring your own. Additional clay (one free bag of recycled clay included), firings, special lusters, underglaze transfers and overglaze decals can be purchased for a fee.

A maximum of 4 students will be in the open studio and no make up sessions will be offered. Once open studio is full, a waitlist will open.

Bisque firing will occur after week 3, so you can glaze during week 4. Finished pieces will be available to pick up within 2 weeks after the last session.

SLIDING SCALE PRICING

Sliding scale pricing is how we balance the equity scales and we use it to make ceramics education accessible and affordable to all. There are four tiers for pricing. When signing up for this open studio please pay what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible. BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ are encouraged to pay the Solidarity and Equity Tiers.

Full-price Tier – This is the actual cost for the open studio.

Solidarity Tier – This is a moderately discounted cost for the open studio.

Equity Tier – This is a further discounted cost for the open studio.

Pay-it-Forward Tier – This is a moderately higher cost for the open studio. This tier helps us continue to offer sliding scale pricing as well as offer low cost workshops.
