Pottery Open Studio December 2024-January 2025 Ad Hoc

Note: This is a pet-friendly studio. While cleaning is regularly done, there will most likely be allergens present. Pets are welcomed with permission only.

During late-December to late January, students will have time to come in to practice on their own. This option is only for current and former students who are familiar with the space. If you have not taken a class at Shoulder Cat Studio, your order will be refunded minus a processing fee. During this time, the studio is monitored by a student monitor, but there is no instruction given.

This option is for ad hoc registrations.  Dates are first come, first serve for 3 students on each date. 

Open Studio Availability between December 28th to January 30th (you can attend any 1 available day per ticket)

Mondays 6:30 pm-9:30 pm

Thursdays 6:30 pm-9:30 pm

Saturdays 10:00 am-1:00 pm

The fee includes use of the studio space during the ad hoc session. Students will receive 1 lug of recycled clay (approximately 3-5 lbs). Glaze and firings will be included. Shelf space is communal. 

There are general pottery supplies for use in the studio. Personal tool kits are also available to purchase for $15. An apron and towel will be provided, though you can bring your own. Additional clay, glaze, firings, special lusters, underglaze transfers, and overglaze decals can be purchased for a fee.

Bisque firing will occur after week 3. Finished pieces will be available to pick up around 2-3 weeks after the last open studio session.

SLIDING SCALE PRICING

Sliding scale pricing is how we balance the equity scales and we use it to make ceramics education accessible and affordable to all. There are four tiers for pricing. When signing up for this open studio please pay what feels right to you and your current finances. This is a trust based system, only you will know what feels comfortable and possible. BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ are encouraged to pay the Solidarity and Equity Tiers.

Full-price Tier – This is the actual cost for an ad hoc open studio session.

Solidarity Tier – This is a discounted cost for an ad hoc open studio session.

Equity Tier – This is a further discounted cost for an ad hoc open studio session. This option can also be used by current 4-pack open studio attendees.

Pay-it-Forward Tier – This is a moderately higher cost for an ad hoc open studio session. This tier helps us continue to offer sliding scale pricing as well as offer low cost workshops.
